A Simple Altar Cleansing Ritual for New Beginnings
One way to start your preparations for Ostara is to cleanse your Altar.
- Cleanse your space and altar
- Physically clean the altar
- Wipe the surface with
- moon water,
- salt water or an
- herbal essence such as rosemary, sage, or lavender
- Wipe the surface with

- Light the herb or incense, and wave it over the altar. Then pass each object that will go back on your altar through the smudge. Common smudges include
- Sage
- Palo Santo
- Mugwort
- Sandalwood

- You can use sound to break up the stagnant and negative energy that can build up anywhere, but it’s especially important to clear the area around your altar.

- spring flowers,
- Spring stones, and
- candles
- Light a candle to represent the returning sun
- Yellow

- fresh starts, and/or
- green
- growth,
- abundance,
- renewal
- Hold a seed, a crystal, or an egg while choosing your intention.
- Speak it aloud or write it down
- Place the seed on your altar or plant it
- You can also burn or bury your written intention if you choose to write it down.
- Sit quietly, visualizing steady growth
