Ostara: Welcoming Renewal and Growth

The Arrival of Spring and Ostara
Spring cannot arrive fast enough! Even though we have not had much winter this year, it was still more than usual, and I am ready for a change. Part of my anticipation for spring comes from time spent recovering from a broken knee. If you have ever worn a knee immobilizer, you will understand how I feel as I enter week seven. This experience has certainly offered me perspective.
Despite my eagerness for spring, being immobilized has reminded me how blessed I am. This brings a sense of renewal and prompts thoughts of fresh starts, the very thing the seasons are telling us. Ostara is all about fresh starts, fertility, growth, and renewal.

Embracing New Beginnings with Ostara
As Ostara approaches, I find myself reflecting on the idea of fresh starts, hoping to see them not only in the changing seasons but also in other aspects of life, including the political landscape. Ostara’s energy of love and balance can help us all.
Also known as the Spring Equinox, Ostara marks the moment when day and night are equal and signals the increase of daylight. This season is filled with growth and potential, guided by our intentions.
Symbolism of Ostara
The young God’s seasonal growth represents fertility, vitality, and the animal world. He rises in spring, bringing light and life back to the world, ready to unite with the maiden Goddess at Beltane.
We have the potential to create whatever we desire, and this possibility is strengthened when we align our intentions with the seasons, hope, and harmony. Tools such as spring colors, stones, herbs, seeds, eggs, and candles help us focus our intentions and connect with the universal energy of the God and Goddess, empowering us to shape our reality.
Core Themes of Ostara
- Balance & harmony – Aligning intention with action; day and night are equal
- Renewal – Shedding stagnation and welcoming fresh energy
- Growth & fertility – Nurturing ideas, goals, and spiritual practices
- Potential – Trusting what is beginning, even if it is not yet visible
Setting Intentions for the Year
This is the perfect time to reset habits and clarify intentions for what you wish to create in the coming year. By doing so, you can begin the year with a creative mindset and a plan to shape your reality.
There are multiple ways to prepare for Ostara and decide which intentions to pursue:
- Clean and refresh your altars
- Hold a reawakening ceremony
- Reimagine your altar and add symbols of spring, such as seeds, eggs, plants, and flowers, to your altar or home
- Start a garden or any new project
The goal is to honor the sun's return. Whether you choose to plant a seed, bury your written intention, or use another symbol for growth, revisit it throughout the year to renew your commitment to your intentions as a way to honor your growth.
Bringing Ostara Into Daily Life
You do not need elaborate rituals to celebrate Ostara. Simple actions hold powerful meaning:
- Declutter and clean, not just your altar but your entire living space
- Start a new project or habit
- Spend time outdoors
- Refresh your altar
- Choose tools that support balance and renewal
Ostara teaches us that consistent, mindful care creates lasting growth.
At Pagan Realms, our Ostara and Spring Equinox offerings are designed to support balance, renewal, and intentional growth. From crystals and candles to altar tools and seasonal guides, each item is selected to align with the gentle power of the season.
